everything you need to feed your babies
I am going to walk you through the must-haves for a new eater! I know it can seem overwhelming but I believe setting the stage at an early age sets you and baby up for success when it comes to eating. I have complied my favorite products + tools to get you started!
As you have heard me say before, I knew early on I did not want to have to make a “kid meal” and “adult meal” for my family. So when it was time for Mikey to start eating solids, I knew I was going to make my own baby food. I researched a ton and realized that would be the BEST way for us to introduce similar types of foods we ate. I used pinterest a TON but my go-to resource was the Little Foodie Cook Book by Michele Olivier. I used the Kiinde Foodii Starter Kit for my puree food storage. I actually used the kiinde bottle system as well. It worked great for me!
In addition to pureed food, I also incorporated baby-led weaning which encourages food freedom. A great cook book I used was Baby-Led Feeding by Jenna Helwig. Once you are comfortable with the concept of baby-led feeding, you can basically prepare the same meal for the entire family. You would just cut it smaller for your baby… cue the kitchen shears!!! Seriously the HOLY GRAIL in my kitchen! I use them to cut food on the daily. It makes for a clean cut and efficiency when your little one is patiently 😉 waiting for their meal.
SOOOO this ikea highchair is only $20!!!! Who can beat that?! I have used it for both Mikey and Stella. It is so easy to clean and the simple design goes with any home decor. If you start feeding your little one around 4 months, I would recommend starting with a bumbo chair which offers more support until your baby is sitting on their own.
I believe putting your babies food into some type of plate and/or bowl aids in their independence when it comes to meal time. I used a variety of the ezpz plate/placemat systems and still do! The first foods set is the way to go if you want to try out some of their products. Providing your littles ones with utensils at a young age assists with their fine motor skills and ability to be independent. Using an open mouth cup promotes oral motor skills and helps your baby transition from a bottle.

Lastly, who could live without a silicone bib!!! Clean up is a breeze with these. I always have a silicone bib AND ezpz mat with me when we eat out. That way Stella’s plate doesn’t end up on the floor!!!! and I can just wipe off the bib and put it back in the diaper bag. That way, everything is always CLEAN and there when you need it.
I hope this helps get you started! Let me know some of the products you love in the comments!!
